Based on a play by Tarell Alvin Mccraney and brought to the silver screen by Barry Jenkins, Moonlight is helmed by Mahershala Ali, Naomi Harris, Alex R. Hibbert, Ashton Sanders, and Trevante Rhodes.
Premise: A timeless story of human self-discovery and connection, Moonlight chronicles the life of a young black man from childhood to adulthood as he struggles to find his place in the world while growing up in a rough neighborhood of Miami.
Moonlight is specific, not tailored for an audience. The audience has to adapt to the story. It’s the story of one boy, in one neighborhood with one mom and yet it’s easy to identify with Little / Chiron / Black.
These three names represent three chapters in the life of one man. The story is compelling and well directed.
